An Awesome Gift

My first guest left this note and this beautiful plant as a thank you gift; which was not expected, but truly appreciated.

It's really awesome and really sweet of them to do so.

Lovely plant

It's a succulent plant.  Very low maintenance and great indoors.  According to Mr. Google, the name of the plant is a Blue Rose Echeveria.  Read all about it at the link.

Very fitting plant for Casita del Rose, right?

Meet Ms Dang

I'm happy to announce that Casita del Rose now has a care taker.  Meet Ms Dang!

She's an independent contractor at Tagaytay Prime Residences who's duty is to check in guests and tidy up the place afterwards--making sure that the unit is ready for another check in.

Now guests won't have to worry about late check ins... as long as they do coordinate it first.

Likehack Lesson 1: Getting BPI Customer Care to Call Back

5:00 PM angeLjamie 0 Comments

We all love BPI.

They're very convenient with their bank anywhere feature, mobile banking and internet banking.  Plus, there's no additional charges for these features.

But we hate calling them.  Their 89-100 hot line is a mess!

You'll have to wait forever for somebody to pick up from the other line.

What many people don't know is there's a way to get BPI Customer Care to call you back at your convenience.  No waiting on the phone or loosing precious time and load.

Tweet them! That simple.

Just get on your twitter and send them a tweet that you'd like a call back from them.  Don't forget to follow their twitter handler.  Its @TalktoBPI.

@TalktoBPI

They will follow you back and would ask to DM to them your name, contact number, preferred time to call and your concern.

After that, just wait for their call.

@TalktoBPI is available from Monday to Friday, 8AM to 4PM.

Disclaimer!
Casita del Rose is in no way getting compensation from BPI for this post.

Meeting The First Guests

2:59 PM angeLjamie 0 Comments

I'm not sure if I'm lucky, or maybe the system is rigged?! Because, just after a few hours of listing my site at Airbnb, I already had two inquiries for a one-night weekend stay.  But I'm not complaining.

Maybe it's the place?

Taal Lake

Tagaytay is a known tourist spot and it tends to draw the crowds during the love-month.  Not only to celebrate Valentines day, but to also feel the cold Northeast wind (Amihan). Considering that Tagaytay is only an hour or two drive from the Metro--and that's already including the traffic.

So there I am, on a Saturday, driving my way to Tagaytay to meet Casita del Rose' first guests, feeling both excited and apprehensive.

Will they find the place up to their standards? Will the pictures do it justice?

More importantly, will my place still be intact after the first night?

Luckily, I arrived at the place an hour before my stated check in time of 3PM.  So, I did some last minute sprucing and checking.  Making sure that the place looks and smells nice.

By 2:30pm, I'm already at the lobby waiting for my guests.

We did a friendly--albeit shy--meeting and key exchange.  Then I bid them a nice vacation, which I'm sure they will have.

Pricing Your Airbnb Cleaning Fee

9:25 PM angeLjamie 0 Comments

Unlike a regular hotel, guests using Airbnb do not expect a chambermaid to come into the room everyday to do bed turning and vacuuming.  But they do expect the unit to have crisp clean sheets and fluffy towels upon arrival.

Reasonable enough.

You wouldn't lie in a bed used by others without changing the sheets first now, would you?

But then again, Airbnb rooms are priced lower than hotels.  And that there is the conundrum.

Hence the Cleaning Fee.

First time hosts shouldn't be afraid to add in a cleaning fee cost for their listing.  But, they shouldn't be greedy either.  Here are some tips to consider.
  • How much are other hosts, in the same area, charging?
  • Are you going to do the cleaning yourself?
  • Are you going to hire professional cleaners to do the cleaning?
  • How big is your rental unit?
Rule of thumb, is to charge the same rate as with hiring a 3rd party cleaner.  By this way, if you only have an overnight booking, you wouldn't be subsidizing the cost of cleaning the unit.

Just make sure you stick with the purpose of the cleaning fee... which is providing clean room for your guests to stay in.

Casita del Rose is now open!

4:06 PM angeLjamie 0 Comments

After 4 months of planning and execution, we’ve finally listed our very first condo unit in Airbnb.  We’re noob on this venture.  Learning from other people’s post in the internet and hoping for the best.

I and my husband am seasoned traveler, if you count that we travel out-of-town or out-of-the-country at least once a year.  And no, it’s not to a new country per year.  We’re limited to the country of his work host.  But we at least have a good sense and idea of what a cozy room should like and what level of service are expected.

So without further words and commentaries, we’re giving you a glimpse – and an invite to try Casita del Rose in the lovely city of Tagaytay.

Casita del Rose - double bed

Take the time to unwind in a place a few hours’ drive from the Metro.  Feel the cold February weather.  Relax at the shabby chic inspired room.  Be a romantic and treat your wife or girlfriend to a weekend get-away with wine.

Casita del Rose is located at the 17th floor of the Cityland Tagaytay Prime Residences building, near Olivarez College.  Just before the Tagaytay Rotunda.  It's a ~25sq-m one-bedroom unit with a double bed and lounge sofa that can accommodate four persons.  There's air conditioning (for summer nights), a heated over-head rain shower, a mini two-door ref, microwave oven and induction cooker.

Shower stall

Kitchenette

Let's not forget the lounge sofa and the 40in TV, which is a must.

TV and breakfast bar

Booking is by Airbnb or HomeAway.  Both are free and uses secure payment methods.
