You would need you old magnetic strip ATM card in this exercise.
1.
Insert the magnetic strip ATM card
a.
Select your preferred language
b.
Select Other Services
c.
Select PIN Services
d.
Select Activate Debit EMV Card
e.
Key-in your 4-digit PIN
f.
Press NO if you don’t want a
receipt; YES, if you need a receipt
ATM machine will eject the old magnetic ATM card.
2.
Insert new EMV Debit Mastercard
a.
Select your preferred language
b.
Select Other Services
c.
Select PIN Services
d.
Select Nominate PIN for Debit EMV
Card
e.
Key-in new 6-digit PIN, twice, consecutively
f.
Press NO, if you don’t want a
receipt; YES, if you need a receipt
Your new card will be activated after 24 hours.

BPI issued two-types of EMV-enabled Debit card. One is EMV-enabled Master Debit card (which has the mastercard logo on it), this can be used for online transactions since it connects to the mastercard credit network allowing for merchant payments.
DeleteThe other is the EMV-enabled Cirrus ATM card. It has NO mastercard logo on it and can only be used to withdraw funds via ATM and POS payments. No online purchases.

ReplyDeleteIf you were able to successfully activate your EMV card, no need to use the old magnetic card when doing ATM transactions. Although the old card won't be terminated immediately (terminates after 30days), it would be good practice to use the new EMV-enabled card henceforth.

I would suggest visiting any BPI branch to ask them about it. Maybe there's something in the system that they need to refresh.

ReplyDeleteactually, yes.
DeleteThe change from magnetic card to EMV enabled is a BSP mandate. The banks were supposed to have it fully implemented come July 01, 2018, the very last date for them to implement.
Aside from distributing EMV enabled cards to their account holders, banks were also mandated by the BSP to upgrade their ATM machines and POS terminals to accept EMV enabled cards only. If after July 01, the bank hasn't fully complied, BSP will levy fines to the bank.
So yeah, if you decided not to bother to get your magnetic card replaced with EMV, sooner or later, you won't be able to use it to any of the ATM machines after the banks have completed their upgrade.
At the moment, BPI is still not compliant with the BSP mandate and I can only assume that they are paying fines, which is computed on a per day basis after the July 01 deadline.

DeleteThe transaction must be done continuously for it to work. Again, the card would be activate 24hrs after changing the PIN.
